Market for credit-default swaps decreases for first time
The volume of outstanding contracts in the market for credit-default swaps dropped from $62 trillion to $54.6 trillion in the first half of this year, according to the International Swaps and Derivatives Association. "This decrease primarily reflects the industry's efforts to reduce risk by tearing up economically offsetting transactions and demonstrates the industry's ongoing commitment to reduce risk and enhance operational efficiency," said Robert Pickel, the association's CEO. "We expect to see more effects of this over time." Bloomberg (25 Sep.)
