The pace of mergers and acquisitions in the first half of 2008 was slow, but a recent slew of large deals may be the beginning of a busier second half. "I think you'll see an increase in M&A as the year goes forward, particularly as the financial market settles down," says Mike Burnick of Weiss Capital Management.
