Gold producer hedging drops to record lows
Gold hedging plunged by another 18% in the first quarter of 2008, shrinking the global delta-adjusted hedge positions to 22 million troy ounces (Moz).

European banks must turn their attention to the risks posed by the $1 trillion (?642.9bn) in equity structured products they underwrite in the wake of their losses on structured credit, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Standard & Poor's is requesting comments on the proposed addition of an identifier to signify that a rating is on securities that have been issued out of a securitization structure. The subscript would appear after the traditional rating symbol. For example, the rating symbol for a 'AAA' rated asset-backed note would change to 'AAAs'. The purpose of the identifier is to provide greater transparency and insight to market participants by distinguishing structured finance ratings from the more traditional corporate and government ratings.

 

Structured Finance

We lowered our ratings on 132 tranches from 28 U.S. cash flow and hybrid collateralized debt obligation (CDO) transactions. In addition, the ratings on 69 of the downgraded tranches remain on CreditWatch with negative implications, indicating a significant likelihood of further downgrades. We also lowered and placed on CreditWatch negative our rating on one tranche from one U.S. synthetic CDO transaction.
