Default, Transition, and Recovery: U.S. Distressed Debt Monitor: Biggest Increase In Distressed Ratio In Five Years
In November, the U.S. distress ratio recorded its largest monthly increase in five years, rising to 4.9% from 2.3% a month ago and 2.1% 12 months ago. The total number of rated companies with issues trading at distressed levels ballooned to 224, almost double the 120 in October. A rising distress ratio signals an increased need for capital and could act as a precursor to more defaults if accompanied by a market disruption.

Even Best-Case Scenario For 2008 Leveraged Loan Volume Isn't Too Rosy
At the Loan Syndications & Trading Associations Annual Conference in October, we asked a panel of senior sell-side executives about their outlook for the primary leveraged loan market in 2008. Each thought volume would drop significantly next year, with predicted declines ranging from 25% to upwards of 40%. The first quarter, the panelists speculated, would see the worst of it. By the second quarter, conditions would improve and volume would rise, and by the second half, things would be rolling again.

Iran's intelligence minister said on Wednesday he was ready to publish details about the case of a former nuclear negotiator whose espionage charges were dropped but who the ministry has said is guilty, a news agency reported.

Representatives of six world powers trying to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions will meet in Paris on Saturday, British foreign office minister Kim Howells said in parliament on Wednesday.

 

 

IRAN:  Iran has commissioned a new submarine, Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari told state television. Dubbed the "Ghadir," Sayyari has indicated it is the second boat in a domestically built series.

 

IRAN:  Abdel Aziz al-Hakim, leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, appears to be free of the lung cancer for which he was being treated in Iran, one of his aides told McClatchy Newspapers. Al-Hakim is to have a checkup in Houston today to verify that the cancer is in remission.
