QUE SIRA?  That which we call a rose by any other name might smell as
sweet - but that doesn't mean you can call it a rose.  Less than a
month ago, NASD announced that the group would be called the
Securities Industry Regulatory Authority, or SIRA.  However, as it
turns out, SIRA sounds similar to an Arabic word that refers to the
traditional biographies of Muhammad - and it didn't take long for
complaints about the similarity to begin flowing.  MORE at

Nearly six in 10 (57%) of all adults in this country own a pet or pets
of one kind or another, with dog owners (39% of all adults)
outnumbering cat owners (23%), according to a Pew survey.  Nearly
seven in 10 (69%) adults with an annual family income of $100,000 or
more have a pet, compared with fewer than half (45%) of adults with an
income below $30,000. Also, rural residents (65%) are more likely than
suburbanites (57%) or city folks (51%) to have a pet - though they're
a bit less likely to consider their dogs or cats a member of the
family.

ON THIS DAY:  In 1918, in Yekaterinburg, Russia, Czar Nicholas II and
his family were executed by the Bolsheviks - having been under house
arrest since March 1917. The Romanovs had been taken to a cellar under
the pretense of having their photograph taken.  In 1969, at 9:32 a.m.
EDT, Apollo 11, the first U.S. lunar landing mission, was launched
from Cape Canaveral, Florida.  In 1945, the U.S. detonated the first
atomic bomb in a test at Alamogordo, New Mexico.  In 1981, after 23
years using the name Datsun, executives of Nissan changed the name of
their cars - to Nissan.
